New St Albans choir starts 16th January

Following the successful launches of our Stroud and Wimborne choirs in 2022, Some Voices is continuing to expand with a brand new choir in St Albans. Starting in January 2023, the St Albans choir will welcome everyone from St Albans and the local community that wants to enjoy singing together.

The St Albans choir will be led by Rebecca Baxter, who has been leading Some Voices choirs in London since 2016. She said:

“I’m so excited to bring the Some Voices magic to St. Albans! With so many great things going on, it’s the perfect place for us to set up our newest choir home. No auditions, and no need to read music; just join us for some singing fun each week, and revel in the amazing harmonies we create!”
Rebecca Baxter, St Albans Choir Leader

Rehearsals begin on 16th January on Monday evenings at The Quaker Meeting House, St Albans. New members are encouraged to try out the choir for free in a taster session - book your taster session here.

Some Voices is a contemporary choir, described as having “an unshakable sense of community” and our main mission is to make singing available to everyone - whether or not you have singing experience. There are no auditions, no pressure, no need to read music. Songs are learned by ear so it’s completely accessible to newcomers, shower-singers and karaoke enthusiasts!

“We welcome every voice at Some Voices choir. We aim to take the pressure off singing and just let you enjoy the fun of making music together. It’s a relaxed environment and just by having a go, you will learn and improve your singing. Most of all, it’s a community where we all support each other and make life-long friends.”
Laura Howe, Musical Director of Some Voices

Each term is 10 weeks long, including a half term break and plenty of social activities. Every term has a theme - this Spring our theme is 1980s with our show entitled “Together in Electric Dreams” which will be performed at professional live-music venues around the country, including in St Albans.

Some Voices started in London in 2010 with a small group of singers and has grown to more than 1,100 members across Newcastle, Brighton, Cambridge, Stroud, Wimborne, York and 12 different London locations, with St Albans joining the line up for 2023. The choir is known for feeling “less like a choir and more like the closest you might get to being a rock star” (The Guardian).

In December 2022, Some Voices performed “Choir Actually”, the soundtrack to festive favourite movie “Love Actually” brought to life by a choir, to sold-out audiences around the country. The choir also featured on Channel 4’s The Last Leg Christmas special and on ITV with Keala Settle in the 2021 Royal Variety Performance at the Royal Albert Hall. Past triumphs include recording the soundtrack for BBC One’s 2019 Christmas advert and appearing with the BBC Concert Orchestra on BBC Radio Two’s Friday Night is Music Night.
