Some Voices receives further support from Culture Recovery Fund

Some Voices are among more than 2,700 recipients to benefit from the latest round of awards from the £1.57 billion Culture Recovery Fund. This award will enable Some Voices to continue to provide members and the wider community with opportunities to sing together and connect through music.

Some Voices is a London and Newcastle based contemporary choir which at the start of 2020 had almost 1,000 non-auditioned members. After cancelling rehearsals and live events in March last year, the choir has stayed connected with online sessions and video-based performances. Some Voices received a grant from the first round of the Culture Recovery Fund in October 2020 to allow these online activities to continue.

Some Voices is really chuffed to have received further funding from the Culture Recovery Fund, thank you to the Arts Council for their ongoing belief in what we do. This support and the support of our members means that we’ve not only been able to get through the most challenging of times but has ensured that we can continue to build communities, support one another, and make more brilliant moments happen.

This past 12 months we’ve all had to do strange things like singing into our computers, rehearsals on mute, and creating performances from home. But we’ve stayed together, we’ve kept going and the time has nearly arrived for us to get back to doing what we do best. It’s a huge moment for us and we can’t wait.”

Curtis Stansfield, Musical Director of Some Voices

With the help of this vital funding, Some Voices are planning a summer term of in-person rehearsals, starting at the end of May, subject to the expected easing of restrictions following the government’s roadmap. Rehearsals will be in small groups, socially-distanced in COVID-secure venues following all safety precautions, with the aim of getting members back to singing live together again as soon as possible.

To hear from us when we go on sale with our summer term, please make sure you have joined our mailing list.

 About the Culture Recovery Fund

More than £300 million has been awarded to thousands of cultural organisations across the country including Some Voices in the latest round of support from the Culture Recovery Fund, the Culture Secretary announced today.

The second round of awards will help arts organisations like choirs, theatre companies and music venues to look ahead to the spring and summer and plan for reopening and recovery. After months of closures and cancellations to contain the virus and save lives, this funding will be a much-needed helping hand for organisations transitioning back to normal in the months ahead.

Following the Covid-19 crisis, the Arts Council developed a £160 million Emergency Response Package, with nearly 90% coming from the National Lottery, for organisations and individuals needing support. We are also one of the bodies administering the Government’s Culture Recovery Fund. Find out more at www.artscouncil.org.uk/covid19.
